It's Tuck!

I submitted my deposit yesterday, and I don't have any regrets today. :)

To respond a bit to people's comments, which I always love:
* I am indeed all about general management. I don't think I have a finance bone in my body.
* I do plan to stay in the US, or at least I don't have plans to leave it.
* I tested Chicago and Tuck career services and I found Tuck to be a lot better suited to my needs. Admittedly, it was just a test, but it's the best information I have to go on.
* Having gone to Harvard undergrad, I am unimpressed by rock star faculty. I care a lot more about the student/faculty ratio and the way faculty engage with students. From what I hear, it's point Tuck here.

Also, on a totally unrelated note: If you are going to HBS or Sloan next year and you are looking for a nice place to live in Cambridge, leave your email address in a comment and I'll send you a link to the listing for my condo on craiglist. It's up for rent, but I'm also meeting with real estate agents to talk about putting it up for sale.

Congratulations! Tuck's a great school and every single Tuckie I know is extremely passionate about the school & the experience. I believe you're gonna love it there!

Congrats on the decision.
On a side note, i guess you would be one among the first batch of students who get to use the newly constructed McLaughlin Atrium at TUCK :)
Wish you all the very best.

I've been wrestling with the same decision (Tuck vs. Chicago), so thanks for sharing your thoughts. Like you, I'm submitting my deposit for Tuck, so I completely agree with your rationale. Some people look at both schools on paper and favor the GSB for very valid reasons (e.g., strong finance rep, flexible curriculum, Nobel laureates, int'l brand, cutting-edge labs). A majority of those people probably have never visited either. For me, I find Tuck's warm culture, caring faculty and students, and tight alumni network more compelling on a personal level – I would have never fully appreciated those factors without visiting, and those themes came out loud and clear during ASW. Chicago's admit weekend left me with an impression students do their own thing and don't have any shared experience or bond – most commute and many only spend 2-3 days a week on campus except for recruiting. In addition, there were few GSB alums present; those who attended were not very impressive (esp. the keynote speaker). Especially telling, when I informed students at Chicago I was debating Tuck, none advocated for the GSB – most said, “Oh, just do what you want; both are great.” That's not the environment or community I want to join. Tuckies (past and present) have been so passionate in all my interactions, and that excitement is refreshing.

As far as the left brain reasons, Tuck's reputation and placement in consulting and even finance is just as good as Chicago's. I would even argue because of the 50/50 open/close bidding at Tuck, students have a better shot at the "top" interviews. Its connections to East Coast PE/VC shops are probably better than the GSB's, actually. And Tuck’s tight alumni network will favor me years down the line, esp. because I want to do entrepreneurialism and will need investors who are responsive. So for me, the positives about Tuck far outweigh any of the potential downsides. Both are awesome schools, but Tuck just felt right. Others may have different priorities and thus make a different choice. Interestingly, if you actually polled applicants deciding between the two, I find most would agree with us – I only met 1 guy who chose Chicago over Tuck compared to 5 or 6 who made the same choice you (and I) did. Congrats on your decision, and I look forward to seeing you in Hanover in the fall!!
